As the chill creeps in and the evenings grow darker, many of us start to crave that golden-hour glow, the warmth on our skin, and the slow, languid pace of sun-soaked days. Whether you’re escaping the UK winter or simply want to swap drizzle for daiquiris, there’s always a corner of the world basking in sunshine.
If you have the budget and are willing to travel further afield, consider Australia, which offers great weather and plenty to do. For a shorter flight, the Canary Islands are often very popular and promise sun most of the year and again have plenty to do – have you tried a walking holiday before? This is a great way to explore and enjoy the heat! You also have Dubai, which, over the years, has grown a lot in popularity.
To help give you some inspiration when you are chasing the sun, below we have put together a guide on three countries you can visit.
The Canary Islands
If you’re after sun and don’t fancy a long-haul flight, the Canary Islands are your best bet. Tenerife, Lanzarote, and Gran Canaria each offer year-round warmth, stunning volcanic landscapes, and beautiful beaches. You can enjoy all-inclusive hotels (If you want to try and keep the cost down when you are there), different cuisines and plenty of things to do – especially on the water, like kayaking or paddleboarding.
Dubai
Dubai is the definition of guaranteed sunshine – think blue skies 365 days a year. It’s the ideal blend of modern city glamour and beach relaxation. It’s an extremely luxurious destination where you can enjoy rooftop bars, award-winning restaurants, and plenty of five-star hotels. It tends to be a more expensive breakaway, but if you have the budget, it’s one we would recommend and don’t think you will regret going to.
Australia
If you’re ready to go the extra mile (literally), Australia is worth every hour of the flight. When it’s winter in the UK, it’s summer Down Under – meaning perfect beach weather and outdoor adventures galore. Sydney is buzzing with energy, offering iconic landmarks, stunning coastal walks, and a thriving food scene. Head north to Queensland for the Great Barrier Reef, or south to Melbourne for coffee culture and cool city vibes. Whether you are going away on a romantic break, travelling solo or with your family, there is something for everyone – just make sure you research the best time to book flights, as they tend to be the most expensive part of the trip.
Going on a sunny holiday is something we all look forward to, and there is nothing worse than turning up and it not being hot. Hopefully, the suggestions above offer you a great solution and a wonderful breakaway.
Where are you planning on going away to? Have you tried a different sort of holiday, such as skiing, where you can have fun and not rely on the sun?
