The friendship between the USA and Australia is at its best, as suggested by this recent tweet of President Joe Biden saying,
“Mr. Prime Minister, the friendship between the United States and Australia is here to stay.”
President Biden tweeted this as attending the G7 summit in Hiroshima with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
The US and Australia have been on good terms in overall relations. And now, both of these countries are concerned about Chinese aggression and influence. Hence, their friendship is much stronger than ever.
Not only this, but Australia and the USA are also part of the quadrilateral security dialogue, also known as the Quad.
The main agenda of creating Quad is to counter Chinese aggression, maintain peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, and expand against all the border countries.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida all of these world leaders gathered at Hiroshima (Japan) for the Quad Leaders’ summit on the 20th of May 2023.
Other Aspects of US-Australia Friendship
Apart from being a member of Quad over the same concern, there’s another point that is enhancing the US-Australia relationship.
And that is the nuclear-powered submarine deal called AUKUS between Australia, the UK, and the USA.
The reason behind this AUKUS deal is to control Chinese hostility in the Indo-Pacific region. Well, the reason matches with the Quad as well.
The deal was signed in San Diego, aiming to sell at least three nuclear-powered submarines to Australia by the start of 2030.
Meanwhile, the UK will profit by providing submarine technology and designs, and these designs and technology will be mixed with the US technology to manufacture nuclear-powered submarines.
This Submarine deal is evident that Australia needs to maintain its naval force to counter any Chinese aggression. And having nuclear-powered submarines is a very important part of this.
This deal is very crucial in the journey of US-AAustralia relations since it is the first time that the US is willing to share its nuclear technology.
US and Australia on Clean Energy and Climate Change
Australia and the US are trying to improve diplomatic relations by using clear energy agreements. Both countries are trying to manage supply chains, advancing and developing markets, and investment.
All these are important factors to create a shift towards clean energy and make the economy stronger with clean energy.
Free Trade Agreement
The US and Australia signed the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on the 1st of January, 2005.
And since this FTA, US exports to Australia have risen by a very large number. These exports are mainly in financial services, internet, cars, and data services.
Australia has become a bigger and more profitable market for many US-based companies thanks to this Free Trade Agreement. Not just this, but the main source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) for Australia is the USA.
These foreign direct investments have improved economic growth and development in Australia.
