It is hard to disagree that video games are nothing short of a phenomenon. One only must look at how much the industry has grown to get an idea of this. There are constant advertisements and reviews that plaster the internet every day, showing that it is simply impossible to escape from the craze. This kind of growth is even more incredible considering how video games were originally viewed by the public. Many might remember a time where they were blamed for perpetuating the development of behavioural problems in children, leading to incidents such as the Columbine shooting.

Today, there is a greater degree of acceptance of video games and negative attitudes have simmered. Recently, the video game industry overtook movies and films combined to become the leader of the entertainment industry. This speaks to the worldwide appeal of video games, but it might be interesting to see what the industry could look like in the future. It is clear that video games and technology are intimately linked considering that video games are purely a digital source of entertainment. This means that as technology has progressed, so has the way in which people play video games.

One good example of this is online multiplayer play. Before this was created, the only way to play video games with friends was to sit beside them and use the split-screen function that many games at the time would have been shipped with.

The limitations of split-screen play were exposed when the first multiplayer game was released to the public as now, people found that they could play wherever they were, regardless of location. Multiplayer games of this type would have been useful during the recent lockdowns as this proved to be an isolating time for many. Entertainment accessible from home like gambling would have been desired, and those looking to play should look at the latest gambling laws to see if the activity is legal in their area.

Gaming has also changed in other ways and is likely to continue changing as technology develops. Those who grew up in the 80s and 90s will remember that video games used to come in the form of cartridges, which have now evolved to cleaner, more useful compact discs. However, it seems that a new way of playing video games is taking place and people must only look to examples like PlayStation Now and Google Stadia to see in which direction the industry is heading.

People love using streaming services, something that is evident by how much the industry has soared since its inception. It is becoming the preferred way to watch films and TV shows, and the same can be said for video games too. The idea of streaming a video game without going through the arduous process of downloading it is one that appeals to many, and it would not be a surprise to learn that streaming video games in the future is the norm.

There are many ways in which developing technology has changed gaming, but loud gaming seems to be the next step in the evolution journey of the industry.
