Magikarp is an aquatic water-type Pokemon with a blank eye and pink lips; it has heavy reddish-orange scales. Its fins are white, and on its back is a three-peaked yellowfin resembling a crown, which is ironic considering it is one of the most useless Pokémon.

Trainers often overlook Magikarp, believing it is a weak and pathetic Pokémon despite its massive potential. Magikarp inhabit various bodies of water, including ponds, shallow puddles, rivers, and lakes; the currents often sweep many Magikarp downstream due to their weak swimming muscles.

In the distant past, Magikarp were stronger than their weak descendants that exist today; they became gradually weaker over time. Despite its weak stature, Magikarp is a very hardy pokémon that can survive in most polluted water bodies.

People often describe this Pokémon’s conduct as a pathetic excuse, limited to flopping and splashing. This unusual behavior prompted scientists to research the Pokemon.

Although Magikarp are weak and helpless, they are incredibly fertile. Many wild Magikarp are around the region; you will grow tired of seeing them.

1. At What Level Does Magikarp Evolve Into Gyrados in Games?

Magikarp evolves into a Gyrados at Level 20 in almost all Pokemon games.

You can evolve Magikarp into Gyarados at any level after you reach 20 to 99. But if it reaches 100, you cannot evolve Magikarp, unless you give it a rare candy, it only works for the recent generations.

So, What level does Magikarp evolve in most Pokémon games? It evolves into Gyarados at Level 20.

1.1 What Are Magikarp’s Abilities?

People might wonder why this Pokémon is often regarded as virtually useless. Once you know its abilities, you will understand why trainers try to ignore or avoid catching one.

Magikarp’s most popular and well-known attack is ‘Splash,’ which is essentially a jumping action that doesn’t affect anything. At level 15, Magikarp learns the move ‘Tackle,’ but it deals minimal damage due to its weak base stats.

Magikarp’s third ability is the Flail, the lower its HP, the more damage to the opponent. The ability unlocks at level 25 in most games, but in Generation VII and above, it unlocks at level 30.

1.2. Is Magikarp The Weakest Pokémon?

Everybody knows Magikarp as the iconic weak and pathetic Pokémon. Out of over 800 species of Pokemon, Magikarp is one of the weakest, if not the world’s weakest Pokémon, ranking down there with Caterpie and Sunkern.

Even the Pokedex entry points out Magikarp’s uselessness. Here are some of Pokedex’s entries: “weak and pathetic,” “a pathetic excuse for a Pokemon,” “underpowered,” “virtually useless,” and “famous for being very unreliable.”

What level does Magikarp evolve in most Pokémon games? In the video games, Magikarp is often treated as a joke. Picture this scenario: ‘Hello, young man! How would you like to buy this shiny Magikarp for five hundred Poké Dollars?

No refunds!’ And in the anime, during the Battle Aboard St. Anne!, James kicks one into the water, exclaiming, ‘You good-for-nothing fish!’

Why does something so weak and tiny become one of the most powerful pokémon? Seriously, if you do not know anything about Pokemon and somebody shows you a picture of a few of them, In that case, you might think that Gyarados should be part of the Dratini family instead of the Magikarp evolution line. So, are the people who make Pokémon crazy for letting Magikarp evolve into Gyarados?

Magikarp is based on ancient Chinese mythology; it is based on a carp. According to the legend, a carp that leaps over the Dragon Gate will transform into a dragon.

It is a perfect metaphor for Magikarp and its story. Magikarp is like the carp that will never give up and keep jumping even though it is weak, and then one day it becomes strong because of it.

1.3. What Is The Quickest Way To Evolve Magikarp Into Gyarados?

Magikarp can be one of the most popular Pokemon despite its weak stats, combat abilities, and being virtually useless in battles. But, With a little patience and help from items, Magikarp can become one of the most powerful Pokemon.

To level up Magikarp in the game, using rare candies is one of the quickest ways to e. It is the most highly sought-after item in the game and is limited. This item makes it easier to evolve Magikarp faster without battling other trainers, for example. You can obtain rare candies by finishing tasks and challenges in raids or some specific location.

Another easy way to fasten the speed of Magikarp’s evolution into Gyarados is to select it as your first Pokémon in a fight and promptly switch it out with another Pokemon. After the duel ends, participating Pokémon share the experience points.

It might appear tedious to level up this way, but it proves to be a more effective strategy than using Magikarp and risking its fainting in battles each time. Leveling up this way may appear tedious, but it’s a more effective strategy than attempting to use Magikarping and risking it getting fainted every time.

Exp share was first introduced in generation II, a handheld item that helps give an Exp. Share to a Pokémon in their party that is not first in the lineup and battles; part of the experience points gained by the battling Pokemon is given to the one holding the Exp. Share, the exp are split between the holder and the one in the field.

This item is essentially made for useless and pathetic pokémon like Magikarp that brings nothing to the battle.

1.4. Is Evolving Magikarp Worth it?

Magikarp may be virtually worthless, but evolving it is worth it in the game. Adding Gyarados to your squad will only boost your setup.

Gyarados has an incredible offense and defense, making it a hardy pokémon. Gyarados has an excellent high base stats of 540 and a special ability introduced in generation iii, known as intimate. This hidden ability lowers an opponent’s attack stat of the close opponents by one state.

Gyarados is a water/flying type Pokemon with powerful water abilities like Waterfall, crunch, rain dance, hydro pump, Hurricane, thrash, and hyper beam. It is also compatible with powerful dragon TM moves like Dragon Rage and Pulse.

From Generation I to Generation IX, Magikarp has been commonly appearing in all the games; this pokemon is found across the Paldean north and south province waters of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. To evolve Magikarp into monstrous Gyrados, the Pokemon must reach level 20.

A different approach would involve feeding Magikarp a large amount of Exp. If you have candies lying around, or even Rare Candies, make the process as fast as possible. Unless you learn Tackle at level 15, Magikarp may still be ineffective in fights.

There is also another secret method for evolving Magikarp in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, For this method to work, you need the Let’s Go feature to have Magikarp swim up a waterfall and climb on top of it, after that Magikarp evolves into Gyarados.

This secret method references one of the Pokemon anime episodes “The Evolution of Magikarp” where Ash’s Magikarp evolves into Gyarados after swimming upstream a waterfall.

1.8. How Do You Find Magikarp in the Wild?

You can spot Magikarp pretty much anywhere there’s water, especially at the beginning of the game. It is, like, everywhere! So, to find Magikarp in the game is not a hard task.

1.9. Finding Wild Gyarados In Pokémon Sword & Shield?

The Pokemon Sword and Shield is the latest game addition to the franchise. It is a primary version of the generation VIII.

Gyarados is the most iconic and powerful Pokemon from that gen. Gyarados evolved from Magikarp, the infamous splashing fish Pokémon. Magikarp may be considered one of the most seemingly useless Pokémon in the series were it not for its transformation into Gyarados and its peculiarly endearing role in a mobile game.

Both Magikarp and Gyarados can be found in Pokemon Sword & Shield as well. It can be found in various water locations within the game. Specifically, you can find Gyarados in the main game in East Lake Axewell, located in the Wild Area. Moreover, it also appears in the DLC expansion known as the Isle of Armor.

Gyarados can be spotted swimming in the seas surrounding the island, which include the Workout Sea, Stepping-Stone Sea, Insular Sea, Honeycalm Sea, and Loop Lagoon. While it can appear in any type of weather, the chances of encountering it are rare.

1.10. How Do You Catch A Gyarado In Pokémon Sword & Shield?

One of the most straightforward methods to catch a Gyarados is by using a Quick Ball. Throwing the Quick Ball at the start of the battle might allow you to capture Gyarados before it has a chance to react.

However, there’s a chance that Gyarados might break free, leading to a battle. In cases like that, you need to weaken it before throwing a Pokeball to capture it.

Gyarados is both a Water and Flying type, but it’s notably weak against Electric-type attacks.

Exercise caution not to overdo it; if Gyarados faints, the chance of capture is lost. It’s important to use Pokémon with status-affecting moves, such as those that induce sleep, to help capture.

Another option is to find Magikarp and capture it if finding Gyarados seems difficult. Magikarp can be found in all the previously mentioned areas and is much easier to find and catch. What level does Magikarp evolve in Pokemon Sword and Shield?

To evolve Magikarp into Gyarados, all that is required is for it to reach level 20. While Magikarp is not known for its battling ability, it simply needs to be part of your active party and participate in a fight to gain experience points.

1.11. What Level Does Magikarp Evolve In Magikarp Jump

A gaming company created a game centered around Magikarp’s weakness. ‘The Magikarp Jump” was developed by the creative minds at The Pokemon Company. The objective is simple: feed your Magikarp and help it reach new heights in jump power with maximum efficiency. Train your Magikarp to have the best chance at success in high jumps.

In the game, Magikarp comes in one of nine main color types: classic, calico, orange, pink, grey, purple, apricot, gold, and brown.

To catch each Magikarp, you need a specific fishing rod. Magikarp with unique patterns tend to have better natures and, thus, better traits, but these types of Magikarp are much rarer and may take longer to obtain. Bi-color Magikarp is rare, while Gold Magikarp is the rarest color in the game, and evolving a Gold Magikarp will transform it into a Red Gyarado.

The process will take time, depending on how far you have trained your Magikarp.  To speed up and reach level 20, use the training sodas.

There isn’t much to this game except for one thing: watching multiple Magikarp jump. Your goal is to raise successive generations of Magikarp until you get one that can triumph in every in-game tournament.
