There are not less than 400 vineyards and 200 wineries in North Carolina. It is one of the leading wine-producing regions in the United States.

These wineries are not just for your palate but a wholesome process of experiencing wine with festivities, music, local culture, and arts & crafts.

1. Places with Wineries in NC

Only the areas with peculiar climates, soil, and altitudes can favor the nourishment of the vineyards. North Carolina is blessed with five such places. You can experience something uniquely privileged in these areas.

1.1. Appalachian High Country

This area’s high-altitude vineyards and wineries encounter unprecedented challenges and privileges generated by the elevation and slanted mountainsides.

1.2. Haw River Valley

The rich soil in the Haw River Valley and the unique weather conditions help the area hold a long maturing season. You can enjoy wine tasting throughout the year here.

1.3. Swan Creek

Swan Creek possesses a distinct microclimate, hence the novel taste of the grapes here. The distinguished soil is rich in nutrients and water. It helps the nurturing of the vineyards.

1.4. Upper Hiwassee Highlands

The Appalachian Mountains’ twisting rivers and bosky slopes bear peculiar sugary and off-dry style wines to the North Carolina wineries.

1.5. Yadkin Valley

North Carolina’s first American viticulture area is Yadkin Valley. Nearness to the Yadkin River and moderate altitudes support the flourishing of different kinds of grapes.

This area is one of the leading wine zones on the East Coast. The place holds over a dozen wineries now.

2. The Most Stunning Wineries in NC

2.1. Shelton Vineyards

Shelton Vineyards replaced tobacco farms that existed in the olden days. This is one of the Yadkin Valley NC wineries. This is home to diverse varieties of Vitis vinifera grapes. You will get many award-winning wines here.

You can participate in exciting events in the winery. It holds venues for corporate and private events, such as weddings. 

The picnic area, marvelous pond, and amazing walk paths make your visit more exciting. The Hampton Inn and Suites here make your stay cozy and memorable. Their package options vary from concert days to special getaways.

Tours and tastings include a 33,000-square-foot winery guided tour, a tasting of five wines, and a souvenir wine glass. Lavish shopping opportunities offer another distraction to tourists. 

2.2. Banner Elk Winery

This is one of the mountains vineyards of North Carolina huddled in the awesome Blue Ridge Mountains. The Villa, which was inspired by Tuscan features, consists of eight luxuriously furnished suites.

Banner Elk Winery & Villa is one of the leading commercial wineries in the region. The vineyard mainly plants new French-American and American varieties of grapes and offers the latest wine country participation.

Banner Elk Winery & Villa offers astonishing landscapes, sophisticated settings, and award-winning wines. It is the ideal venue for weddings and receptions from the intimate to the luxuriant.

You will get countless activities for family reunions or corporate meetings and retreats.

2.3. Silver Fork 

Silver Fork Winery is cuddled in the foothills of the South Mountains in Western North Carolina. You can enjoy Bordeaux-style wines in this winery. It is one of those NC wineries that grow European varietals. They are one of the first vinifera grape growers in North Carolina.

Like other wineries, they cater to vineyards and winery tours. It has a beautiful setting for snaps or other hosted events like weddings, showers, get-togethers, and business conferences.

They propose a variety of Indoor and outdoor possibilities for hosted events. The Pavilion at Silver Fork offers several event Packages to choose from, so you can customize your event too.

2.4. Overmountain Vineyards

Overmountain Vineyard is a family-owned farm in the Tryon Foothills of Polk County, western North Carolina. Their masterpiece is handcrafted and distinctive French-style wines.

They cultivate five varieties of grapes. They also plant blueberries on site. Their regular tasting incorporates samples of current-release wines with a souvenir glass.

You can opt for an elevated tasting session by appointment. It combines a private wine tasting, a vineyard tour, and a winery tour. One must be 18 and older to visit the tasting room.

If you are there to stay, they offer luxury villas to enjoy the scenic beauty and sip your wines. Visiting in June or July will give you chances to pick organically grown blueberries.

2.5. Burntshirt Vineyards

Burntshirt Vineyards has two tasting rooms: one in Chimney Rock and the other in Hendersonville. You can enjoy the views of the vineyard as you sip on a variety of whites and reds. 

This winery with two estates in Henderson County was opened in 2013. It has a 1,700-square-foot barrel room. It is furnished with large wine barrels and wine bottle chandeliers, which resemble European chateaus and wineries.

It hosts weddings, meetings, and private parties. Courteous, supporting teams are there to assist you. It features luxuriantly landscaped, beautiful mountains, and picture-perfect sunsets to raise your excitement. 

Vintner’s Table Food Truck, a private tour with the winemaker through the winery, private tasting of seven wines, and boxed lunch are some of the sampling options. Their Tasting Room specialists will take you on the tasting tour and let you see the equipment at work.

2.6. Biltmore Winery

It’s also America’s most-visited winery. Their tasting room provides tasting options from sweet whites like Chenin Blanc to dry reds like Cabernet Sauvignon. Other than sampling wines and watching the craft of winemaking, many more things are there in Biltmore Winery.

You can take a tour of the Biltmore House in Antler Hill Village. You will enjoy your underground walk through the historic cellars of the former Biltmore Dairy.

Activities like picking out your desired wines to take home, and purchasing cooking accessories and gifts in the Wine Shop will add more colors to your visit.

The fascinating outdoor sculpture created by Patrick Dougherty attracts most of the Biltmore visitors. The stickwork of Patrick Dougherty with willow branches is one of a kind, and it will mesmerize you.

You can also opt for a stay at Dairy Foreman’s Cottage. Biltmore offers several wonders for families and all kinds of visitors.

2.7. Cauble Creek Vineyard

Cauble Creek Vineyard concentrates on Muscadine wines. Muscadine grapes give a special flavor and aroma to Muscadine wine. This is one of the NC wineries that offers a collection of Dry wines from North Carolina that has grown European varietals.

The tasting room, including locally made crafts and gift items, along with an incredible array of food products with tasty wines, will surely fascinate you.

2.8. Muscadine Wine and Wineries

Muscadines make up a good portion of the NC wineries. Some wineries concentrate entirely on muscadine wine, while others include combinations amongst different stocks.

Apart from the very sweet traditional muscadine wine, now there are several sorts, modifications, and blends that are sweet, dry, and a lot more.
