Livermore Valley has been growing wine grapes since the early 1840s. The Valley started producing some of the world’s most prestigious wines in the 1880s and continues.
1. Las Positas
Las Positas Vineyards in 2006 was established as one of the family-owned Livermore wineries. They combined old-world craftsmanship and new-world pioneer spirit for the creation of world-class wines in this Livermore winery.
The winery consists of the main event room, dining room, tasting room, vineyard terrace, and quaint cottage. It facilitates venues for weddings, meetings, and other events. From May to October, The Evening in the Vineyards concert series runs.
Las Positas Vineyards is one of the top Livermore Valley Wineries. They specialize in small lots of barrel-fermented wines aged in French and American oak.
Their 60 to 90-minute wine tours will show you how wine is made, the vineyards, bottling line, barrel room, etc. The tour ends in the cottage with 6 small bites paired with 6 wines.
2. Darcie Kent Vineyards
Darcie Kent Vineyards is a family-owned & managed winery in the Livermore Valley located East of San Francisco Bay. It was established in the Livermore Valley in 1996.
It has placed its name on the list of ‘certified California sustainable winegrowers.’ They have held the legacy of the family since 1880. The Darcie Kent Vineyards tasting room and art gallery are open daily.
You have plenty of tasting spaces to choose from – picnic tables on the covered court or grass, with scenic views of vineyards, the Crane Ridge foothills, etc.
The main perk here is the opportunity to enjoy award-winning chardonnays, Darcie Kent red blends, and Cabernet Francs in the main tasting room.
Its tasting room features Darcie Kent’s watercolor and acrylic artworks. Also, the winery’s outstanding wine labels were painted by Darcie Kent herself.
Your tasting experience includes a six-wine flight comprised of the wines from the last two quarterly releases.
3. Wente Vineyards
Wente Vineyards is also one of the oldest vineyards in Livermore. The winery is home to 2,000 acres of green vineyards, two tasting rooms, a golf course, and a restaurant. Wente was the first area winery to import Chardonnay cuttings from France.
Wente is an excellent place for your vacation at any time of year. You can appreciate live music concerts in summer. And if you are here in November- December, you can walk through the pop-up Christmas market.
4. Concannon Vineyard
Established in 1883, Concannon Winery is one of the largest and oldest vineyards among Livermore wineries. You can enjoy both indoor and outdoor tasting areas in these vineyards’ wineries. The large lawn and beautiful Victorian home set up the perfect ambiance for your picnic.
Internationally renowned cabernet sauvignon is their masterpiece. They can boast that an approximated 80% of California Cabernet Sauvignon produced originates from Concannon Clones.
Concannon is one of the certified sustainable Livermore wineries. You must be 21 years old or older to visit the place.
5. Retzlaff Vineyards
The Californian winery is a charming winery with a huge lawn, 100-year-old pepper trees, and a garden.
This Livermore vineyard became a certified organic vineyard in 2006. The 1985-established vineyard produces award-winning Californian wines.
Retzlaff’s tasting room experience consists of wine tastings accompanied by light snacks. Also, a tour of the magnificent vineyards or sitting in the homey tasting room with full or reserved wines is fun.
The tagline of Retzlaff Winery is “Come for a taste, stay for a bottle.” Making justice to their tagline, they will refund your wine-tasting fee if you buy two bottles.
6. BoaVentura Vineyards
When Brett Caires finally realized his ultimate goal in life, he bought a five-acre land, a family-owned property by the Concannon family. He took the century-old farmhouse as his home and the natural barn to host tastings, weddings, and other events.
Bonaventura Winery mainly concentrates on Cabernets as the area supports the cultivation of Cabernet grapes. Brett’s passion for winemaking helped him make the new white table wine, which tastes like the Vinho Verde white wines. Boa Ventura means Good Venture.
This is one of the family-oriented Livermore wineries. The two grass lawns and the awe-striking landscapes of Livermore Valley are perfect for playful pets, small kids, and family larks.
7. Cedar Mountain Winery
Cedar Mountain Winery proposes more than 20 wines, extending from premium and reserve to dessert wines. It is best appreciated for its wide selection of award-winning port wines.
They entered the wine market and began with a cabernet sauvignon and a chardonnay. Right after, they released a sauvignon blanc, & rest is history.
Though table wines are their pillar, Fortified wines also have an important part of Cedar Mountain’s collection. The owners have mastery not only in wines but in sculptures, paintings, and cuisine also.
It was established in 1990. But in 2012, they moved to a smaller property without a vineyard to focus on homebrew, small lot Table wines, and Ports.
Their hand-crafted wines are handy in fine restaurants, wine shops, or directly from the winery’s cozy tasting room.
